Thomas has been member of the faculty since January 1985 and is currently Reader in the School of International Relations and Politics. He was educated in Tanzania and India. He received his B.A, M.A and M.Phil degrees in Political Science from the University of Kerala, Trivandrum and his PhD in International Relations from the Mahatma Gandhi University. Dr. Thomas specializes in International Relations and American Studies. His other interests include African Studies, human rights, ethnicity and sociolinguistics. He is the author of several articles and the book The American Predicament: Apartheid and United States Foreign Policy (Aldershot, UK: Ashgate, 1997) He was International Visitor to the United States (1996), Salzburg Fellow, Austria (2001) and was selected Outstanding Intellectual Leader in the course The United Nations, Civil Society and the Private Sector: Partnerships for Sustainable Human Security, of the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary (2002). He is a founding member of the South India American Studies Network and has served as member of the Commission for Education of the Kerala Catholic Bishops Council. He is also an active member of the Mahatma Gandhi University Teachers Association, serving both as its secretary and treasurer. He has also been a member of the Senate of the Mahatma Gandhi University. |
